The discussion will be held on April 26 at 2 p.m.

The historical memoir tells the story of Paul’s experience as an American college student working as a nanny in Moscow in the mid-1980s and her involvement in the fight for human rights in the former U.S.S.R.

Anne Garrels, Senior Foreign Correspondent for National Public Radio and former ABC Moscow correspondent, said in a book review on Paul’s website, “Lisa Paul is in a rare position. She was a witness at the end of the Soviet Union... This story provides a personal window into that world and what it took for those who lived in it to survive. In today’s Russia this story is ever more powerful as memories die, and authoritarianism comes back.”
Paul, who currently resides in Milwaukee, has received numerous awards from the Jewish community for her activism on behalf of Russian refuseniks — individuals who were denied permission to emigrate abroad by the former Soviet Union government. Most notably, Paul went on a 25-day hunger strike to draw awareness to the plight of Moscow native Inna Kitrosskaya Meiman who, as Jewish dissident and refusenik-cancer patient, was repeatedly denied the right to obtain a visa to leave the U.S.S.R. to receive cancer treatment.

In addition to a discussion on the new book, Paul is offering an event promotion; for those who buy one book, they will receive one free copy, provided the free book is given to a young person. Light refreshments will be served at the event.

Four times a year, the Sarah Chudnow Community invites “rehab graduates” back to the campus for a free, white-tablecloth lunch. “The rehab reunion is always a wonderful event where our guests spend the time reconnecting with friends they made while living in rehab,” said Sales and Admissions Coordinator Larry Ladin.

After the invitation-only lunch, the graduates, along with the community, are invited to attend the second in a two-part lecture series on China. Lecturers and educators Jim and Katie Gennrich will be speaking about Chinese lifestyle and culture on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 2 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. The couple lived in China for four years and taught five semesters of an international business program at Tianjin Foreign Studies University in Tianjin, China (near Beijing)and Soochow University in Suzhou, China (near Shanghai).

“We are thrilled to host several Jewish community events this month and encourage the community to learn about the vibrant culture here at the Sarah Chudnow Community, both as a faith-based institution and a place for the community to gather, learn new things and make new friends,” said Community Administrator Paul J. Schultz of the upcoming events.

On February 8, at 2:30 p.m., there will be a celebration for Tu B’Shevat, the day that marks the beginning of a “New Year for Trees.” It will include an interactive story, accompanied by snacks (nuts and dried fruits from trees), grape juice of four different colors and traditional songs. The meeting is intended to provide community members, particularly seniors, with assistance to register to vote in Wisconsin in light of the new Voter Photo ID Law. The event will be held at the Sarah Chudnow Community, 10995 N. Market Street, Mequon and is scheduled to last 90 minutes.

“Throughout the year the Sarah Chudnow Community holds political events and public debates for our residents and community members, from the local to the national level,” said Chudnow Administrator Paul J. Schultz. “For the community here, it was a logical decision for us to get involved in this awareness campaign; our goal is to provide easy access to the information and assistance voters need to register and/or obtain photo IDs for upcoming elections.”

Earlier this year, the Wisconsin legislature passed the Voter Photo ID Law, which was signed by Governor Walker on May 25. In addition to requiring voters to show an acceptable photo ID to receive a ballot, the law contains other important changes to the voting process, including a longer, 28-consecutive-day residency period and a requirement for voters to sign the poll list.

“These are the most significant changes to Wisconsin’s elections since 18-year-olds won the right to vote in 1971,” said Kevin Kennedy, Wisconsin’s chief elections officer. “There are also important exceptions in the law, which are not widely understood.”

During the public meeting, Erika Wisk, a Department of Transportation field supervisor, will provide the paperwork necessary for ID card applications and give a brief presentation of the new restrictions. Representatives from the Government Accountability Board will also be available to answer questions. The free event is open to the community. Light refreshments will be served.

Voters are also encouraged to visit the G.A.B.’s website (http://gab.wi.gov) for information about the new law. A statewide, multi-media public education campaign about Voter Photo ID is scheduled to start early January 2012. The first election at which a photo ID will be required is February 21, 2012.
Livermore comes to Sarah Chudnow Campus from Extendicare, where she was the director of nursing for the past three years. Prior to that she served as director of nursing and director of clinical services for the Lutheran Home.

"We are very pleased to add Kerri's professional and personal skills to our team," says Sarah Chudnow Campus administrator, Paul Schultz. "We have an excellent nursing program with dedicated staff, and we have set some very high standards for nursing care, which Kerri will direct." Schultz added that U.S. News and World Report recently rated Sarah Chudnow five stars out of five for its nursing staff to patient ratio, and he also referenced the zero federal citation rating in their most recent state inspection conducted by the Wisconsin Division of Quality Assurance. Livermore remarks, "When I visited Sarah Chudnow Campus I was very impressed with the facilities and level of care. I'm looking forward to working with the staff and residents and continuing to elevate the already high standards that Chudnow provides."

In addition to her professional duties, Livermore devotes time to charity efforts, including frequent mission trips to Haiti. She is actively involved in fundraising for earthquake relief in Haiti after seeing the devastation firsthand last March.

Sarah Chudnow Campus earned a "cite-free" federal health services survey from the Wisconsin Division of Quality Assurance (DQA) in their 2010 annual evaluation of skilled nursing facilities (SNF). Sarah Chudnow Campus Rehabilitation Center was found to be in substantial compliance with all federal health care regulations.

All facilities licensed to provide skilled nursing care in Wisconsin are regulated and monitored by the DQA. On average the DQA will evaluate a skilled nursing facility once per year, and biannually for assisted living. The DQA survey reports the number and severity of deficiencies resulting from non-compliance with federal and state regulations. The survey is based on direct observation of resident care; resident and family interviews; and a comprehensive review and evaluation of medical records, policies, procedures and systems related to resident care.

"We are very pleased with these latest survey results," said Sarah Chudnow Campus Administrator Paul J. Schultz. "There is a sense of teamwork here that you do not find everywhere. The hard work and dedication of all our staff is evident, and is the key to our success." He went on to say, "We are gratified to have had a very positive survey in each of the last two years, which validates the actions we've taken to continually improve the care our facility provides to our residents and the public."
